I discovered Portman when she starred in The Phantom Menace. Awful though it was, light sabers are cool and she was cute. My friend Adam Pitman can be blamed for telling me more about her and sparking my interest. Jonathan Westfall said someone should write a song about how everyone wanted to marry her. We were going to try and do it together but I started on my own over vacation and it went pretty quickly. The repetition of her name recalls Billy Bragg singing Ingrid Bergman (Woody Guthrie's lyrics put to his music), a song I think I'd heard on the radio by the time I wrote this.
